Description
A largeadvertising jar manufactured for Armour and Company of Chicago. The jar is constructed from clear glass molded into a barrel shape with vertical staves and horizontal hoops. It features a wide-mouth metal screw-top lid finished in off-white paint and a wire bail handle with a red-painted wooden grip. The front of the jar retains its original multi-color paper label. Text on the label includes: U.S. INSPECTED AND PASSED BY DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE EST. 2A, Armour’s STAR with a five-pointed star icon, selected in red cursive, 16 LBS. 12 OZ. NET, MADE IN U.S.A., VINEGAR PICKLED PIGS FEET, and ARMOUR AND COMPANY – GEN’L OFFICES – CHICAGO. The base of the jar is embossed with PATENT PENDING in an arc along the upper portion, with other markings present in the center and lower portions that are not clearly legible. A small green sticker with the number 40 is present on the top of the lid.
