Description
This collection features threeregional brewery beer trays from Pennsylvania, all constructed of lithographed tin. Each tray represents a distinct brewery and geographical area within the state from the mid-20th century, circa 1940s to 1950s. The first tray is from the Wayne Brewing Co. of Erie, Pennsylvania. The central graphic illustrates the historic Mad Anthony Wayne Block House, a local landmark. The building is shown in a log-cabin style with an American flag atop the roof, surrounded by greenery. Text on the rim and face includes Wayne Brewing Co., Erie, PA., Mad Anthony Wayne Block House, Erie, PA., and Wayne Brew Beer – Ale. The reverse side is finished in solid red paint. The second tray is for the Duquesne Brewing Co. of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, frequently referred to as the Prince of Pilseners tray. It depicts a smiling man in a white military-style dress uniform with a blue collar and gold epaulettes, raising a glass of pilsner in a toast. A red banner across the center reads Duquesne Pilsener, and the slogan The Finest Beer in Town is repeated along the inner rim. The reverse side is finished in dark blue paint. The third tray represents the Henry F. Ortlieb Brewing Company of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It features a bold mid-century design with a diagonal red band over a yellow field. The top includes a shield monogram logo with the letters H, O, and P surrounded by hops and grain. Text identifies the contents as Lager Beer and Ale and provides the brewery’s name and location, along with atelephone exchange number, Market 7-4728. The reverse side is finished in black paint. Dimensions: Approximately 12 to 13 inches in diameter each.
