Description
This hand-carved wooden working duck decoy is modeled as a drake merganser, featuring a notably elongated and tapered tail consistent with folk-art interpretations of the species. The decoy is constructed with a solid wood body and a separately carved head with painted eyes. The exterior is finished with a hand-painted surface in a traditional style, showing a dark brown head with a white vertical highlight on the rear, a white neck and breast, and a dark grey or black body with white accents. The underside is flat and shows evidence of previous hardware. An auction tag from Atlee Raber Auctions is attached to the neck, identifying the piece as Lot 99 from a June Regular Sale at an Ohio auction house. No maker marks, signatures, or brands are visible on the wood surface.
