Description
This carved wooden Canada goose decoy is rendered in a primitive folk-art style, featuring a multi-piece construction with a separate neck and head assembly. The decoy is painted with characteristic Canada goose markings, including a white cheek patch and a stylized gray-and-black feathered pattern on the body composed of rhythmic, light-colored paint ticks. The head is inset with a dark, reddish-brown glass eye. The underside of the decoy features a carved wooden keel attached with metal fasteners and a small lead strip weight for stability. An auction tag from a previous sale is attached to the neck with string. The carving and paint application are consistent with the regional styles of the Virginia Eastern Shore, particularly the work of Ira Hudson. No maker’s marks or signatures are visible on the object.
