Description
This collection consists of an assortment of prehistoric lithic artifacts and ground stone objects, likely of North American indigenous origin. The items are presented in a glass-topped, red felt-lined Riker-style display case. The group includes various flint and chert projectile points, scrapers, and bifaces. Diagnostic forms visible include several corner-notched, side-notched, and stemmed points, as well as lanceolate blades. The materials vary in color and texture, ranging from dark gray and black chert to tan quartzite and translucent gray flint. Construction techniques include percussion and pressure flaking, with visible secondary retouching on several edges. The collection also features three circular stone artifacts. One appears to be a discoidal or gaming stone with a pecked surface, while another flatter stone displays natural or possibly intentional incised striations across one face. Positioned at the bottom center is a large, elongated bifacial tool showing significant flaking work. On the large central stone, there is a handwritten mark in black ink reading 6996 with a horizontal line above it. A small white adhesive label in the bottom right corner of the display case frame is marked OHIO, suggesting a geographic association with the state. Case approximately 12 x 8 inches. Individual artifacts range from approximately 0.75 inches to 4.25 inches.
