Description
An assortment of North American Indigenous lithic artifacts primarily consisting of various projectile points, commonly referred to as arrowheads and spearheads. The collection exhibits diverse morphologies including side-notched, corner-notched, stemmed, and triangular forms characteristic of the Archaic and Woodland periods in the Eastern Woodlands. Centrally located is a large, dark-colored stone biface, possibly a knife or preform. Below this is a ground stone artifact, likely a gorget or pendant, crafted from grey slate or shale with a single centrally drilled hole. The materials include various types of chert and flint in colors ranging from translucent white and pink to tan, grey, and deep black, the latter consistent with Mercer or Coshocton flint native to the Ohio region. Construction techniques include percussion and pressure flaking for the projectile points and grinding for the slate piece. A small white adhesive tag in the bottom left corner is handwritten with the text Ohio, and one tan projectile point in the upper right quadrant is marked with the white characters E11, likely an old catalog or collection number. The collection is presented in a black-finished shadow box frame with a glass front and red velvet-textured lining.
