Description
This five-gallon stoneware shoulder jug is an example of American utilitarian pottery, featuring a cylindrical body, a sloped shoulder, and a single loop handle. It is finished with a two-tone glaze, with a dark brown Albany-type slip glaze on the upper portion and a light tan Bristol or salt glaze on the lower body. A stamped mark in dark ink is located on the front, showing the characters I L S above a wavy banner with illegible text and a numeral 5 denoting the gallon capacity. A vertical iron drip is visible on the front of the body. Capacity: 5 gallons.
