Lot 100:
Description
This is a contemporary salt-glazed stoneware jug produced by Rowe Pottery Works in Cambridge, Wisconsin. The piece features an ovoid body, a short cylindrical neck with a rounded lip, and a single strap handle attached from the neck to the shoulder. The front of the jug is decorated with a hand-painted, stylized foliate motif in cobalt blue slip, centered around a heart-shaped element flanked by broad leaves and scrolled tendrils. The exterior exhibits a classic salt-glaze finish with a characteristic orange peel texture and light tan coloration. The shoulder bears a circular stamped maker mark that reads HANDMADE ROWE POTTERY WORKS CAMBRIDGE WIS. with the date 1991 stamped directly below. To the right of the main stamp is a small incised potter’s mark consisting of two nested angle symbols. The underside of the jug is unglazed, showing the natural reddish-brown clay body.
