Lot 102:
Description
This antique glass butter churn was produced by the Dazey Churn and Manufacturing Company of St. Louis, Missouri. The piece features a square-bodied clear glass jar with rounded corners. One side of the jar is embossed with the manufacturer name DAZEY CHURN & MFG. CO. in an upward arch above a smaller banner-style arch containing the location ST. LOUIS MO. USA. The churn is fitted with a metal screw-on lid that houses a cast iron gear mechanism. This mechanism consists of a large hand-cranked drive wheel with a turned wooden grip, which operates a smaller pinion gear connected to a vertical metal shaft. The shaft extends into the jar and is attached to two wooden paddles used for churning cream. The construction consists of a clear glass vessel, cast iron mechanical components, and wooden beaters.
