Description
70x95This mid-twentieth century quilt features a complete series of hand-embroidered floral motifs representing the 50 U.S. states. The design follows a diagonal checkerboard pattern, alternating white diamond blocks with pale green squares. Each white block displays a colorful floral embroidery with a scrollwork banner below containing the state name in black capital letters. The presence of Alaska and Hawaii confirms a production date following their 1959 statehood. The alternating pale green blocks are detailed with intricate hand-quilting in sunflower and grid patterns. The perimeter is finished with a decorative scalloped edge bound in pale green fabric. The materials consist of cotton or cotton-blend fabrics for the top and backing with a thin interior batting.
