Description
37×46 This nursery quilt features nine white rectangular panels, each decorated with a different hand-embroidered animal motif. The motifs include a chick, a lamb, a rabbit, a kitten, a deer, an elephant, a squirrel, a puppy, and a duckling. Each animal is rendered in simple dark line work and accented with colorful embroidered flowers and foliage in shades of pink, orange, purple, blue, and green. The central panels are separated by light mint green sashing and finished with a matching green border. The entire piece features a consistent machine-stitched diagonal diamond quilting pattern throughout. The reverse side is a solid light yellow or cream-colored fabric. The construction and stylized animal designs are characteristic of stamped embroidery kits popular in the United States during the mid-20th century. The fabric is likely a cotton or cotton-blend.
