Description
This lot consists of four vintage agricultural seed sacks dating from approximately the 1930s to the 1950s, representing various American seed producers and varieties. The group includes one burlap (jute) sack and three printed cotton or canvas sacks. The burlap sack is printed in red for Dewine Fancy Kentucky Blue Grass, originating from Dewine Seeds in Yellow Springs, Ohio. A heavy forest green cotton canvas sack features the Green Belt (GB) brand for Timothy seed with vibrant orange and white horizontal banding. A deep blue cotton canvas sack for Dewine Seeds Sweet Clover includes red and white accents and stylized brand script. The fourth item is a white cotton sack for Clair Timothy, labeled as 50 lbs. net. This sack features a prominent green and red circular logo and includes a manufacturer’s mark for Werthan on the reverse. The reverse side also contains a specific set of instructions printed in red ink detailing the proper method for removing the branding ink to allow for the domestic reuse of the fabric for household textiles.
