Description
64 x 82 This hand-pieced and hand-quilted cotton bed quilt features a repeating block pattern set against a white ground. Each individual block contains a central cross motif constructed from blue and white striped cotton fabric, anchored by a dark blue printed square at the center intersection. The four outer corners of each block are finished with blue and white printed star point or lily motifs. The textile is finished with a dense hand-quilted diagonal diamond grid pattern throughout the white fields. The reverse side features a plain white cotton backing. A handwritten mark in dark ink is present on one reverse corner consisting of the initials RS. The fabrics utilized include a variety of blue and white printed calicos and striped shirting cottons characteristic of the late 19th to early 20th century.
