Antique American Snails Trail Cotton Quilt

Description
64 x 74 This antique American pieced and hand-quilted cotton quilt is worked in a variation of the Snails Trail pattern, also known as Ocean Waves. The top is constructed from a diverse assortment of late 19th to early 20th-century cotton fabrics, including navy and white floral calicoes, solid grays and blues, blue and white gingham, and various small-scale floral prints. The quilt features a sawtooth or flying geese border on one edge. The construction is entirely hand-pieced and hand-quilted with diamond grid and parallel line patterns. The reverse side is backed with a plain cream cotton fabric that bears a faded, mirrored stencil mill mark reading Standard Cotton, suggesting the use of repurposed commercial fabric.
