Description
60 x 76 This is an unfinished hand-pieced quilt top featuring the classic Grandmother’s Flower Garden mosaic pattern. The piece is constructed from hundreds of individual cotton fabric hexagons joined together using the English Paper Piecing method. The central design features a large-scale flower with a solid red core and petals made from a red, white, and blue striped fabric, bordered by two concentric rounds of mint and forest green solid fabrics. The surrounding field is populated with smaller hexagonal flower motifs in a diverse array of mid-20th-century scrap fabrics, including calico prints, polka dots, checks, stripes, and solids in varying shades of red, blue, pink, and tan. The reverse side reveals the hand-pieced construction with visible basting stitches and raw seam allowances. The quilt top remains unfinished with irregular, raw edges and lacks batting or a backing layer.
