Description
80 x 88 This hand-appliqued and hand-quilted cotton quilt features a recurring iris floral motif characteristic of the American Depression Era. The quilt is constructed with a white cotton ground and appliques in various pastel shades including purple, pink, yellow, blue, and peach. Each floral unit consists of an iris bloom with green leaves and a central stem. The rows of flowers are separated by a continuous green zig-zag or stepped line motif. The quilt is finished with a thin tan inner border and a wide white outer border featuring a hand-finished scalloped edge. The background is hand-quilted with scroll, feather, and straight-line patterns. Construction materials include cotton fabric and cotton batting.
