Description
74 x 78 This mid-century American crazy quilt top is constructed from an assortment of scrap fabrics, including cotton calicos, ginghams, striped shirtings, and various floral and geometric prints. The piece follows a block-style crazy quilt pattern, where each block is composed of irregularly shaped remnants hand-pieced together. The individual blocks are joined and separated by a consistent black sashing fabric featuring a small-scale printed pattern of pink and white flowers. The construction utilizes a simple hand-stitched running stitch throughout. This item is characteristic of American vernacular utility quilting traditions, where leftover household textile scraps were repurposed. It appears to be an unfinished quilt top or a lightweight utility coverlet, as it lacks internal batting and a finished backing or perimeter binding.
