Description

60 x 74 A mid-20th century American sampler quilt top, hand-pieced from an assortment of scrap fabrics. The construction includes cotton and cotton-blend calicos, ginghams, solids, and prints resembling mid-century feedsacks. The sampler layout features several traditional block patterns, including eight-point star variants such as LeMoyne or Lone Star designs, a square-in-a-square variant, and nine-patch blocks incorporating butterfly and polka dot motifs. These blocks are joined by wide solid sashing in shades of purple and tan. The bottom edge is finished with a floral print border. The reverse side reveals hand-sewn running stitches and irregular seam allowances characteristic of domestic hand construction. Small handwritten assembly markings in ink, including a number 5, are visible on one of the purple sashing strips.
