Antiques Quilts and Toppers
Lot 398:
Description
64 x 74 An antique American hand-stitched patchwork quilt featuring an octagon and square layout, which is a variation of the traditional Snowball pattern. The quilt top is constructed from cotton fabrics and consists of alternating white and multi-toned blue octagons. These geometric panels are linked by small plum-colored calico squares. The blue fabrics include a variety of indigo-dyed solids and small-scale printed calicos, while the plum squares are decorated with a fine white floral motif. The quilting is worked entirely by hand, with dense stitching that follows the seams of the patchwork and includes circular decorative designs within the white octagonal panels. The reverse is composed of a plain cream-colored cotton backing. The piece is finished with a simple cream-colored fabric binding.
