Description
74 x 80 This textile is a mid-20th-century American patchwork quilt top constructed in a one-patch or postage stamp grid pattern. The piece is composed of an assortment of scrap fabric remnants, including various cotton calicos, ginghams, stripes, solids, and floral prints. The variety of patterns indicates the use of household remnants common in the mid-century period, with specific prints such as 1940s-style florals and 1960s to 1970s-style geometrics suggesting a multi-decade accumulation of materials. The squares are joined by hand using large, visible running stitches in a dark thread. This is an unfinished project piece, as it lacks internal batting, a fabric backing, and finished bound edges.
