Antiques Quilts and Toppers
Lot 144A:
Description
68 x 80 This item is a vintage American patchwork quilt top featuring a hand-pieced construction. The textile is an unfinished top, lacking batting, backing, and binding. It is composed of assorted cotton fabrics, including various printed calicos, ginghams, and solid red and light blue cottons. The layout consists of three horizontal rows of patchwork blocks separated by wide bands of solid light blue fabric. Each individual block is designed with a solid red central square surrounded by radiating trapezoidal and triangular pieces in a variety of multicolored prints, creating a primitive star or stylized floral motif. The quilt top is entirely hand-stitched with visible running stitches throughout the seams, particularly evident on the reverse side. The construction is irregular, reflecting a folk art character. No maker labels, signatures, or marks are visible on the textile.
