Antiques Quilts and Toppers
Lot 75B:
Description
43 x 66 This is a vintage handmade string-pieced quilt top, likely dating from the mid-20th century. The construction utilizes the foundation piecing method, where various cotton and cotton-blend fabric scraps are machine-stitched onto a white muslin base. The pattern consists of triangular sub-blocks arranged to create larger diamond and starburst designs. The textile features a wide, unfinished border made from a novelty print fabric depicting early 20th-century automobiles. This border includes printed blue blocks with yellow lettering reading REO and orange stylized script reading Knox, referring to the REO Motor Car Company and the Knox Automobile Company. The reverse side reveals the white foundation fabric with visible diagonal machine-stitching lines used to secure the scraps.
