Description

This lot features three antique industrial metal objects associated with the early to mid-20th-century railroad industry. The first item is a short-globe railroad lantern manufactured by Handlan of St. Louis. The lantern is constructed with a galvanized steel frame and a clear glass globe. The top cap is stamped with the characters HANDLAN and ST. LOUIS U.S. The glass globe is detailed with an etched oval mark reading PRR for the Pennsylvania Railroad, and a cast mark of the characters NX within a crescent moon shape. The second item is a conical railroad wick torch, or tallow pot, used for maintenance. The base is stamped with the Pennsylvania Railroad keystone logo containing the characters P R R, and a diamond-shaped mark for JOHNSON URBANA O. It retains a heavy fiber wick at the top and a wire accessory held in a side sleeve. The third item is a galvanized steel liquid measure or oil pitcher equipped with a flexible corrugated metal spout. The side of the vessel is stamped with several marks including NYC – PA, APPROVED TYPE, and P – 10, along with a triangle containing the characters 61 and LIQUID.
