Description
This is an antique transitional jack plane manufactured by Sargent and Co. of New Haven, Connecticut. The tool features a hybrid design consisting of a hardwood sole with a cast iron frog and mechanical assembly. The circular toe plate located at the front of the casting is embossed with the Sargent name in a circular arc. The lever cap features a distinctive textured or knurled surface and a keyhole-shaped aperture for the securing screw. The plane is equipped with a horn-style rear tote and a tall, turned front knob, both constructed from hardwood with a dark finish. The assembly includes a steel cutting iron and a matching steel cap iron. Depth adjustment is controlled via a knurled wheel located behind the frog mechanism.
