Description
42x 81x 18.5. This 19th-century American country style furniture piece is a two-piece step-back cupboard, also known as a hutch, constructed from hardwood with a reddish-brown stained finish. The upper recessed cabinet features a projecting cove-molded cornice over two doors, each with a single recessed panel. The side panels of the upper section are shaped with a decorative scroll profile where they meet the base. The lower base cabinet provides a flat work surface over two matching doors with single recessed panels. The entire piece rests on stile feet formed by cutouts in the side and front baseboards. The cupboard is fitted with four cast-metal turn-latches featuring white porcelain knobs and is hung on surface-mounted metal butt hinges. Remnants of dark green paint are visible on the backboards of the recessed area and the interior of the base cabinet.
