Lot 536:
Description
This vintage broad axe features a heavy steel head designed for hewing logs into square timbers. The head is forged with a distinct offset design where the eye is canted to one side, allowing a user to hew a flat surface without their hands impacting the wood. The bit is finished with a single-bevel edge. The tool is fitted with a curved wooden handle, likely hickory, which shows a dark-stained finish.
