Description
This bronze sculpture depicts a standing youth dressed in a hooded sailor jacket and shorts, engaged in singing while playing an accordion. At the base of the figure, a small bird is perched upon a rocky outcrop. The entire bronze is mounted upon a multi-tiered, circular base made of dark green variegated marble. The bronze is finished with a dark brown patina, showing subtle highlights where the metal has been rubbed at the extremities. The sculpture features an incised mark on the top of the bronze plinth, centered between the figure’s feet and the front edge, reading CHIPARUS in block capital letters. This signature corresponds to the known mark of the Art Deco era sculptor Demetre Chiparus (1886-1947), who frequently depicted subjects of childhood and street performers.Measurements/notes: 3.5 in.
