Description
A Swiss-made miniature grand piano music box featuring a cast-metal body with a textured gold-tone finish. The exterior is decorated with relief-molded scrollwork, geometric friezes, and an ornate lyre-shaped pedal support. The hinged lid is constructed from a swirled yellow-amber synthetic material, possibly celluloid, embellished with a gilt-metal crest depicting a lyre, music scroll, and ribbons. The interior contains a wood-lined storage well and a housing for the musical mechanism, with a metal plunger designed to stop the music when the lid is closed. A printed keyboard facade is situated below the fallboard. The piano stands on three ornate cabriole legs with relief detailing. On the underside, the stippled metal base features an adhesive rectangular brown label printed with THORENS Movement above Edelweiss and Made in Switzerland. A metal winding key is located on the base within a raised compartment secured by two screws. The piano measures approximately 6.5 inches in length and 5.5 inches in width.
