Description
A trio of English polychrome glazed ceramic character jugs manufactured by Royal Doulton. This collection includes depictions of three wives of King Henry VIII, each designed with a handle relating to their personal history. The Catherine of Aragon jug features a gray castle tower handle and is finished with a black hood and maroon dress; the base is printed with a lion over a crown device and text reading MADE IN ENGLAND ROYAL DOULTON ENGLAND, CATHERINE OF ARAGON, D.6643, (c) ROYAL DOULTON TABLEWARE LTD. 1975, and a handwritten mark reading 53. The Catherine Howard jug includes an axe handle and is detailed with a fur collar; the base bears the same printed device and reads CATHERINE HOWARD, D6645, (c) ROYAL DOULTON TABLEWARE LTD. 1977, and a handwritten mark reading 72. The Anne of Cleves jug is designed with a horse head handle and wears a red dress with a patterned collar; the base bears the printed device and reads ANNE OF CLEVES, D.6653, (c) ROYAL DOULTON TABLEWARE LTD. 1979, and a handwritten mark reading 25. Height: 7 inches at the tallest point.
