Description
This charcoal and white chalk drawing on cream wove paper depicts a seated female figure in a three-quarter pose, leaning over the back of a bentwood-style chair. The composition is executed in a gestural, figurative style. The artist uses bold, dark charcoal lines to define the chair and the figure’s clothing, while employing softer tonal shading and white chalk highlights to suggest light hitting the figure’s back, hair, and shoulders. The work is signed in pencil at the lower right corner with a cursive signature reading Kujawski. Below the signature, the piece is dated 3.29.96. The drawing is presented in a simple wooden frame featuring a narrow gilded inner lip. The paper shows pronounced rippling or cockling throughout the frame.
