Description
A large, hand-hammered copper candle niche or lantern mounted on a pedestal base. The piece is constructed from copper sheet and features an arched front frame with a curved back panel. The borders of the front arch, the interior back wall, and the pedestal base are decorated with hand-stamped geometric motifs, including repeating T-shapes and diamonds. An embossed solar or starburst motif is featured on both the interior back panel and the rear exterior of the niche. A pierced floral ventilation hole is located at the top of the arch. The niche is supported by a short stem mounted to a pyramidal base with matching stamped decoration. Included is one cream-colored wax pillar candle with a matte finish. The candle shows evidence of use with a melted, uneven top rim. No other maker’s marks or hallmarks are present.
