Description
This matched pair of cast metal bookends depicts the literary character Huckleberry Finn. The figure is modeled seated barefoot, reading a book while leaning against a rustic fence and a spoked wagon wheel, with a bundle of corn stalks rising behind him. The pieces are finished with a dark bronze-toned patina. The front edge of each base features the impressed text HUCKLEBERRY FINN in all capital letters. One bookend bears an impressed mark on the rear lower edge reading DMCO 22, identifying the manufacturer as the Detroit Metal Craft Company. The undersides exhibit a rough, pitted surface typical of the casting process and are fitted with four modern circular tan cork pads at the corners. Height: 4.75 inches.
