Lot 278:
Description
A hand-cut lead crystal cordial decanter featuring a bulbous body and a long, elegant neck with a flared rim. The decoration is organized into three distinct horizontal registers: the lower body is ornamented with a dense field of sharp diamond-point cutting; the middle section features a band of stylized laurel-wreath or leaf-pattern cuts; and the neck is finished with polished vertical flutes. The vessel is paired with its original ground-glass stopper, which features a matching radial starburst cut on the top surface. The base of the decanter is finished with a corresponding deep radial starburst pattern. An examination of the base in Photo 3 reveals the cut starburst pattern, but no etched maker marks, signatures, or labels are visible or readable. The crystal displays high clarity and brilliant light refraction characteristic of high-quality lead glass. Total height: 10.75 inches.
