Description
A single issue of the Authentic World’s Fair Journal: World’s Columbian Exposition Illustrated, published by J. B. Campbell in Chicago. Dated January 1893, this periodical is designated as Vol. II, No. 11 (whole issue No. 23). The publication is a large format folio periodical in original pictorial paper wrappers. The front cover features a color lithograph by the Hughes Litho. Co. of Chicago, depicting a portrait of Christopher Columbus framed by figures of Uncle Sam and Columbia, against a backdrop of motifs for 1492 and 1893. The interior pages contain black and white photographic plates and lithographs documenting the construction and early events of the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition. Illustrations include views of the Horticultural Building, Machinery Hall, the Manufactures Building, and the Fisheries Building, as well as portraits such as Hon. D. B. Penn. The issue includes numerous period advertisements for products including Singer Sewing Machines, the Davis vertical feed sewing machine, and Crystal Rice cereal. 11×15
