Description

A collection of issues from the periodical World’s Columbian Exposition Illustrated, described as the Authentic World’s Fair Journal and published by J.B. Campbell in Chicago. This lot features the December 1892 Christmas Issue (No. 22) and contains earlier numbers including Vol. 1, No. 2 (March 1891). The December issue displays a vibrant color-lithographed cover by Hughes Litho. Co., Chicago, depicting an idealized Christopher Columbus with a halo-like border, flanked by an American eagle, a patriotic shield, and a scene of Columbia presenting a map of the exposition to Santa Claus. The publication was dedicated to documenting the art, architecture, and progress of the 1893 World?s Columbian Exposition. Interior pages provide a visual record of the fair leadership, including biographical sketches and portraits of Col. George R. Davis, Lyman J. Gage, and Thomas B. Bryan. A substantial section is devoted to the Board of Lady Managers, featuring portraits of managers from various states and territories. Architectural illustrations include detailed engravings of Chicago landmarks such as the Board of Trade and the Post Office. The publication is presented in its original folio-format paper wrappers.11×15
