Description
A pair of silver miniatures modeled as traditional Japanese Shinto shrine gates (Torii). Each gate is constructed with a curved top rail (kasagi), a straight lower horizontal rail (nuki), and two tapering upright pillars (hashira) mounted on tiered hexagonal bases. Centered between the horizontal rails is a circular relief medallion depicting the mitsuba aoi (triple hollyhock) crest, historically associated with the Tokugawa clan. The items function as salt and pepper shakers, featuring small dispensing holes at the ends of the top rails. The underside of the hexagonal bases are stamped STERLING 950, indicating a silver purity of 950 parts per 1000. This high-grade silver standard is characteristic of mid-20th century Japanese silver production intended for export or sale to international residents. Height: Approximately 2.5 to 3 inches.
