Description
A pair of wooden mallets, also known as beetles or commanders, designed for heavy carpentry or timber framing. These tools are constructed from dense hardwood with cylindrical heads and handles. Each head is reinforced with two hand-fitted iron bands positioned near the striking faces to prevent the wood from splitting under heavy impact. The larger mallet features a long, tapered handle, and one of its striking faces retains a degraded red-toned circular pad secured by eight iron tacks. The smaller mallet features a shorter handle with a small suspension hole at the end. The primitive construction and iron reinforcement are typical of late 19th to early 20th-century workshop tools.
