Description
4 in diameter. Antique cast iron waffle iron set manufactured by the Stover Manufacturing & Engine Co. of Freeport, Illinois. This set is part of the Stover Junior line and is a size number 8, which corresponds to the standard eye size for wood-burning stoves of the period. The manufacturer mark STOVER JUNIOR 8 is clearly embossed on the exterior of the top paddle. The set is composed of three primary pieces: a circular low-profile base frame and two matching hinged paddles. The interior cooking surfaces feature a decorative star and square pattern, with one paddle face presenting a raised square grid and the opposing face featuring raised cross or star motifs. The paddles are fitted with original turned wooden handles. The assembly utilizes a ball-joint hinge mechanism designed to allow the user to flip the paddles within the base during the cooking process.
