Description
A United States military issue M2 ammunition bag dating from World War II. The bag is constructed from heavy khaki canvas, also known as Olive Drab No. 3. This piece of field gear was designed to transport various types of ammunition, including mortar rounds, rifle grenades, and boxed small arms ammunition. The bag consists of a large main compartment with a drawstring top and two metal grommets for the cord. The bag is integrated into a wide, yoke-style shoulder harness designed to distribute weight across the wearer’s shoulders. The underside of the shoulder straps features cross-stitched padding. The bag includes adjustable webbing side straps secured with metal buckles. Stenciled in black ink on both the front and back of the bag is the text AMMUNITION BAG M2. A modern auction lot tag with barcode and the number 429 is attached to one of the straps. No manufacturer stamps or contract dates are clearly visible.
