Description
This lot features a full-size US Army Basic Parachutist Badge paired with its corresponding background trimming, or oval. The silver-toned metal badge depicts an open parachute centered between two stylized wings. The background oval is constructed of a black velvet base with a hand-embroidered silver bullion wire border. This specific color combination of a black center with a silver border is the historical heraldry for the 187th Airborne Infantry Regiment, also known as the Rakkasans. The badge is designed with a pin-back mounting featuring a ball hinge and a locking C-clasp safety catch. There are no manufacturer marks, hallmarks, or silver content stamps visible on the reverse of the metal badge. The construction methods and materials are consistent with mid-20th-century military insignia from the World War II through the Korean War era. Dimensions: Approximately 1.5 inches in width.
