Description
A comprehensive World War II United States Army uniform and document group attributed to a member of the 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment. The central item is an M1944 Field Jacket, known as an Ike Jacket, constructed of olive drab wool. The jacket features the shoulder sleeve insignia of the 82nd Airborne Division on the left shoulder and the 17th Airborne Division on the right shoulder, indicating the soldier’s current unit and former wartime combat unit, respectively. Insignia includes silver-tone Parachutist Wings mounted on a blue and white cloth oval, a Combat Infantryman Badge, and a Presidential Unit Citation on the right chest. Collar discs consist of gold-tone brass U.S. and crossed rifles infantry branch insignia. Three ribbon bars are present: the Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, and the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with one bronze service star. The lower left sleeve displays two horizontal gold bullion overseas service bars, representing twelve months of service abroad. The interior waistband contains the handwritten name Bennett in ink. The collection includes two original black paper photo album pages. The first page contains military photographs of soldiers in various settings, with handwritten captions including I.G. Farbin Bldg, Bill Barrett, Herman Kaiser, and Rob Bennett, with dates in April and June 1945. The second page features family photographs with captions including 1st Holy Communion May 26 1946 and family names Joan Barrett and Ken Barrett. Also included are two copies of Westvaco Inspirations for Printers (No. 111 and No. 143), mid-century trade publications featuring period graphic design and military-themed illustrations.
