Description
12.5×7.5 This calligraphic drawing is executed in multi-colored inks, including blue, sepia, green, and orange, on toned wove paper. The central motif is an elaborate bird flourish, a classic example of 19th-century American ornamental penmanship. The bird is depicted with stylized wings and tail feathers composed of rhythmic, sweeping lines. Beneath the bird is a central scroll banner bearing the hand-lettered inscription GOD Bless / our home. The entire composition is accented with additional decorative flourishes, including scrolling vine and feather patterns. The work is housed in its period ornate gilded wood frame featuring molded gesso floral and foliate motifs. The reverse is finished with a solid wood backing board secured by small nails and a basic cord for hanging. No signature or maker’s mark is visible.
