Description
This pair of large-scale domestic hearth implements includes a ladle and a perforated skimmer. Both items feature hand-hammered brass bowls attached to hand-forged wrought iron handles with three copper rivets each. The ladle has a solid, deep bowl, and its handle terminates in a forged circular loop for hanging. The skimmer features a perforated bowl with circular holes and a handle ending in a simple hook. The brass surfaces show visible planishing marks from the hand-hammering process. These tools are characteristic of 18th or 19th-century American or European open-hearth cooking equipment. 23 and 31 inches long.
