Raber Antique Special Auction 8-31-2026
Lot 196:
Description
12 in long blade. This agricultural tool is an antique hand forged billhook intended for brush clearing and hedging. The implement features a broad steel blade with a straight back that curves into a hooked tip. The blade is secured to a turned hardwood handle by a narrow tang. The handle is reinforced at both the neck and base with metal ferrules, likely made of iron or a copper alloy, which have developed a dark oxidation. The base ferrule is fixed in place with a large central metal pin. There are no visible maker’s marks, stamps, or patent dates on any part of the tool. The blade exhibits an irregular surface consistent with hand-forged construction methods.
