Description
18×36 This lot features two vintage commemorative machine-woven textile wall hangings or small rugs depicting members of the Kennedy family, typically attributed to Italian production during the mid-1960s. The first item is a horizontal rectangular tapestry featuring side-by-side portraits of John F. Kennedy and Robert F. Kennedy. These portraits flank a central depiction of the White House with a bald eagle in flight above and a manicured garden with a fountain in the foreground. The second item is a vertically oriented tapestry featuring a portrait of John F. Kennedy holding a rolled document, positioned in front of an American flag. Both textiles are finished with a matching patriotic border of white stars on a blue ground and red and white stripes. The textiles are constructed with a plush, velvet-like pile on the face and a flat, multi-colored weave on the reverse.
