Description
18×14 This watercolor and bodycolor work on toned paper is by the Russian-born sporting artist Boris Riab (1898-1975). The composition serves as a composite study of English Pointers in various hunting poses. It features a large, detailed profile portrait of a liver-and-white pointer head in the upper right quadrant. The middle register depicts two dogs on point in a field, one liver-and-white and one solid black. The bottom register shows a single liver-and-white pointer in full stride. At the upper left, three game birds are illustrated in flight. The work is signed B. Riab in the lower right corner. The piece is housed in a gilt-finished frame behind glass with a wide paper mat. The verso of the frame retains an original gallery label from The Fenway Art Center in Boston, Massachusetts.
