Description

9×10. This art glass vase, attributed to the Consolidated Lamp and Glass Company or the Phoenix Glass Company, features the Blue Jay pattern in high-relief. The vessel is designed with a squat, bulbous body tapering to a short neck and a circular, slightly flared foot. Both the rim and the foot are finished with a vertical ribbed or fluted texture. The piece is constructed of mold-blown glass with a matte, satin-acid finish. The exterior is decorated with an all-over relief design depicting blue jays in flight and perched among a network of intertwined branches. The color palette consists of a cream or ivory-colored ground, with the raised bird figures finished in a soft medium blue and the branches in a light tan or tawny brown. On the underside of the base, small, faint impressed or stamped characters are present but are not clearly legible. The design and technique are consistent with the American art glass production of the early to mid-20th century, specifically the Martele or Sculptured lines. Small chips on end.
