Lot 402:
Description
This collection consists of three vintage lithographed metal tobacco tins dating to the mid-20th century. The lot includes two vertical pocket tins for Picobac Very Mild tobacco and one horizontal pocket tin for Tiger Bright chewing tobacco. The Picobac tins were manufactured by the Imperial Tobacco Co. of Canada, Ltd. in Montreal and Granby. The tins feature an orange textured background with a dark brown diagonal band and are marked with a 10 cent price point. One Picobac tin displays a hand holding tobacco leaves, while the other features a spray of tobacco leaves. The reverse of these tins includes a decorative frame with text identifying the product as a tobacco of superlative merit for pipe and cigarette use. The Tiger tin is a horizontal container for chewing tobacco featuring a central portrait of a tiger within a yellow circle. The background consists of an orange and yellow lattice pattern decorated with small black motifs. A partial blue paper tax stamp is visible on the side of the Tiger tin, marked 1/2 ounce and tax paid.
