Lot 231:
Description
6x3x2.5 This hollow-cast bronze figure is rendered in the late 19th to early 20th-century Austrian style associated with the Franz Bergman foundry. The sculpture depicts a young male of African descent in a dynamic crouching or crawling posture. He is shown reaching forward with his left hand while his right hand holds a small round object, likely a marble. The figure is dressed in short, patterned trousers featuring remnants of cream and red polychrome pigments. The piece is freestanding and lacks an integrated base or separate plinth. No maker marks, signatures, or foundry stamps are visible on the exterior surface or within the underside of the casting.
