Description

71 x 88 This mid-century patchwork utility quilt is hand-pieced and hand-tied. The front side is composed of nine-patch blocks in a 3×3 grid, separated by vertical sashing strips. The fabrics are a variety of mid-century cottons and cotton blends, featuring patterns such as small-scale florals, ginghams, checks, and abstract geometric prints typical of the 1930s through 1950s. The reverse side is constructed in a strippy patchwork style using large rectangular panels of repurposed men’s suiting fabrics, including pinstripes, herringbones, and speckled tweeds in a palette of brown, tan, navy, and gray. A notable feature on the reverse is an intact, repurposed garment patch pocket. The quilt is secured with hand-tied contrasting black and white threads rather than traditional decorative quilting stitches.
